How fast you get started with Mixpanel is mostly up to you. Smaller teams can usually move quickly, while larger teams may take longer because more people have to weigh in. What you control most is how long work sits waiting for a decision or for someone to pick it up.

Three phases

These phases aren’t strictly in order. You can work on the first two at the same time, and it’s best to bring in your wider team once your data is flowing.

Get your data in

Phase 1Plan what to track, test, then launch to production.Done when:
  • You’ve picked a short list of events
  • They check out in development
  • They reach production

Configure your account

Phase 2Set up your organization so it can grow with you.Done when:
  • Organization ownership is set
  • Mixpanel’s AI knows your business
  • Teammates have access

Train your team

Phase 3Bring teammates in and help them answer their own questions.Done when:
  • Teammates know the basics
  • They can find answers on their own
  • They create their first report

Plan ahead to avoid rework

  • Start small. Pick one use case and a short list of events. A focused plan is faster to build and easier to fix.
  • Decide how you’ll identify each person. Pick a user ID that never changes. Without one, the same person can show up as several people, and it’s hard to fix once data is flowing.
  • Name at least two organization owners. Owners have full control of your organization, so a second one means you’re not depending on one person.
  • Tell Mixpanel’s AI about your business. Without it, the AI has to guess how your business works, so what you write here shapes the answers your team gets.
