Enterprise Onboarding Overview


We recommend an iterative 3-step sprint approach to implementing Mixpanel, with each sprint ranging between 1 to 3 weeks. Once you've completed the onboarding, this same process should be repeated in subsequent sprints where you refine and expand your Mixpanel tracking.


Step 1: Plan

Plan: If you have not defined your metrics and KPIs (what you should measure) that align to your company or product objectives, and need guidance, this section of the tutorials should help you. We will go through how to map these metrics and what the best practices are for defining your events and properties in a Tracking Plan. We’ll also cover setting up your Mixpanel Organization and Projects, especially if this is your first time signing up (opens in a new tab).

Step 2: Implement

Implement: We’ll guide you through sending your first data into Mixpanel, and the best practices around Quality Assurance Testing and how to audit your data. We’ll also show you how to establish a data governance framework to keep your Mixpanel implementation clean, concise, and consistent.

Step 3: Launch

Launch: Once your data is in Mixpanel, we’ll teach you how to create your first Mixpanel Boards, walking through each Mixpanel Core Report (Insights, Funnels, Flows, and Retention) to help you start gaining insights; and finally, guiding you to define user Cohorts to you track and monitor your key users.

Goals, Objectives, and Stakeholders

As you plan for Mixpanel onboarding, here are some key pointers to help you succeed.


  1. Set a target go-live date; working backwards, plan your sprints and scope your implementation accordingly.
  2. Start with your critical use cases or user journeys that you want to gain insights on in order to help you meet your business / product goals.
  3. Identify the teams and users who would be using Mixpanel, and start to appoint champions to help drive adoption within each team. Make sure champions are also involved in the onboarding process.
  4. Scope your implementation, key is to start small: Select your top 2 to 3 critical use cases, start with your primary platform - the one with the most user base, and identify any potential 3rd-party integrations with Mixpanel that may be required.
  5. Appoint key stakeholders that will drive a successful onboarding process.


  • Executive Sponsor - helps align teams on organizational goals and priorities, Drives adoption of Mixpanel across the organization
  • Program / Project Manager - point of contact for any Mixpanel implementation project, defines and aligns product use cases, coordinates planning, deployment, and user adoption
  • Technical Lead - responsible for technical implementation work (development, QA, integration), resolves technical issues
  • Project Team - works with Program / Project Manager to help identify and define use cases (KPIs , data schema, etc.)
